A Guessing Game: Double-Heksherim

This is a fun and light-hearted post.

I just bought a product with a double heksher on it. Now uncommon, right? But, this combination of heksherim was just downright bizarre. The product was a common supermarket product, not a heimishe product.

Anyone want to venture a guess of which two heksherim appeared on this product?

The winner will be recognized with a follow-up post.

Update #1-Some Clues:
1. It is a common supermarket product available in any grocery store in the US, even in places like Idaho or Montana, i.e. it is not kosher meat/chicken or kosher cheese.
2. The heksherim are both indicate kashrut, i.e. one is not a hallal.

Update #2-Another Clue:
3. It makes sense, from a kashrut standpoint, to pay for one of the two heksherim. It does not make sense to pay for the other heksher.

Empire chicken has two hechsherim.

Alternatively, many products are kosher both Jewishly and Islamy (Hallal)

Spinach or another bagged vegetable (making sure there are no bugs).

there are breads that will have an OU and another chassidsh hechsher

Aishel-Nope. Two kosher symbols.

Lab Rab-Not a bagged lettuce product. I remember seeing the extra circle next to the StarK during the OU-StarK tiff over the status of bugs. But, that sticker only appeared in kosher groceries.

Blogmeister-No chassidish heksher, but you are getting warm.

Ashkenaz & Sfard?

US & Canada?

Twizzlers with the heilega sticker slapped right across the front. (This is my favorite item that doesn't need an extra hechsher)

Neil beat me to the punch as I was going to say Twizzlers as well.

Basically, it's a scam as far as I'm concerned. Some Rabbi slaps a sticker on the plain old Twizzlers bag and now it's kosher enough to eat?

Neil and SR-Twizzlers only have that all important second hashgacha in stores that cater to the frum crowd. It would not be present in Idaho or Montana.

Keep trying guys.

When we wrap this up, I will be scanning a picture of the package. This is truely bizarre, IMO.

Mike Miller has a sense of humor. Once we see these two heksherim together, I hope I am not the only one laughing.

As for Twizzlers-There are some heimishe people that will accept an OU, but not on Nosh. For some inexplicable reason, Nosh needs to be heimishe. I ate with a lady that wouldn't have Snapple for this reason once. The day I understand, I will blog about it. But, that day is long in coming.

I'll go with OU and CRC (the Satmar one, not the Chicago one).

I remember once seeing some Hershey Miniatures repackaged (with the Hershey wrappers clearly visible) by a "heimish" candy company with their usual hechsher on it at about 3 times the supermarket price. It made me wonder quite a bit: unless the heimish company really had Hershey's do a separate run with different standards (did they make them "kasher" the equipment?) what value added does the "heimish" company provide for the markup?

I was told that Twizzler's has the additional sticker on it to indicate yoshon.

Scraps-You have one of tow heksherim correct. Keep guessing.

CRC and OK- Chabad and Satmar!!!

Had the CRC printed and a Triangle-K sticker.

CRC Satmar & CRC Chicago?

The proper combo has not been said. But, all of the possible heksherim have been listed.

Who will be our winner? :)

CRC and K?

OU and triangle K? one of those triangle K products that *is* ok now so the OU had to then stick their hecksher on too? *scratching head*. This is fun.

PS--- what on earth--- "heimishe" people don't eat nosh with JUST an OU? So if it's not Streits or Manishevitz or some horribly overpriced brand from some horribly crowded and overpriced tiny market, it's not kosher enough? whhhaaaa??? And what constitutes nosh? I nosh on cereal all the time. And bagels. And plenty of stuff that generally, anyone would buy with an OU at a regular old grocery store.

We have a winner. . . . round of applause for Anon 7:41PM.

The product I bought was English Muffins, marked with both a Triangle-K and an OU Parve.

Downright bizarre. See the upcoming post dedicated to our winner.

As for the nosh-If I ever come to an understanding, I will drop everything, run to the computer, and explain. Until that day comes, I'm as clueless as you.

I was at Kosherfest last year and one of the companies had the OU and she explained "don't worry, we're also getting a chassidishe hechsher too." In my book the OU is more than okay!! (not meant to be spelled OK).

BubbyT-Welcome. The OU is good enough for me too!
